How to Encourage Kids to Discover and Pursue Their Passions

Every child has a dream of what he/she wants to be when he/she grows up, just like you did when you were a kid. What are some ways that we can encourage them to dream and pursue their passions?

???? SPEND AS MUCH TIME AS YOU CAN WITH THEM & GET TO KNOW THEM WELL

Dedicate time each day with your kids to get to who they are, what they are interested in and create a comfortable space for them to discuss their thoughts and dreams. Create an environment where they feel like they can voice what is on their minds. Here, as parents, we can observe and recognize their natural gifts. At times, children do not recognize their natural gifts or get discouraged because it gets too difficult or challenging. Share thoughtful words of encouragement and positivity to build their confidence.

???? HELP INSPIRE THEM

Always encourage them to try different things and explore the world and what it has to offer as much as they can. Kids are naturally inquisitive. Encourage them to explore, try different things and discover. Take them to different places, try new sports, read books. Let them know what’s out there, help them discover what is possible.

???? DREAM AS A FAMILY

Dreaming as a family towards mutual goals is a way to shape their core values and character. For example, as a family you reach out to the community to gather supplies for those in need. You can then all dream of how it will positively impact others and in turn, foster their value of generosity and kindness.

???? LEAD BY EXAMPLE

As they always say, lead by example. At times, parents do not realize how much of your own actions influence their child. Show them that you also have goals and dreams are working towards achieving them. They will follow your example.
