9 Easy Ways to Celebrate Earth Day & Each Day of the Year

Let’s celebrate the planet we call home. Earth Day is on April 22nd and is focused on the conservation and restoration of our beautiful planet. This day is a reminder of how fragile our planet is and how important it is to take care of it as much as we can. Here are some small ways of making a big impact to conserving our Earth:

  1. Plant a garden or grow your own produce – Start simple by planting some fresh herbs or container plants such as tomatoes. Planting provides a great habitat for insects and pollinating insects which we need to promote a healthy, sustainable future for the planet. Get the kids involved! This is also a wonderful opportunity to build children’s appreciation of their environment and create memories together.
  2. Switch to Energy-saving Light Bulbs – The Environmental Protective Agency reports that if every household in the U.S. replaced just one standard incandescent light bulb with an energy-efficient light bulbs, the nation would save about $600 million annually in energy costs.
  3. Eat More Food from Local Sources – We love visiting our local farmer’s markets! It not only is a great to get locally sourced ingredients as support local small businesses but it is also a wonderful experience with your family exploring new foods and being a part of the local community. Our kids love it!

4.Use your bike or walk: We are still producing tons of pollutants in the environment affecting global warming, acid rain and even affecting our own health. Cars, trucks, and other types of transportation are one of the largest contributors to air pollution. If you have the opportunity to bike or walk to wherever you need to go, you are making a wonderful difference in the environment.

5.Start a Compost Bin – Composting is an amazing way to feed the soil, organisms in the soil and plant life and reducing waste all at the same time. We have recently been exploring composting and setting up our first composting bin together.

6.Commit to Recycling: We are producing more goods and using natural resources more than ever before. It is estimated that up to 80% of items in our waste baskets can easily be recycled or composted. By recycling we reduce the emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and chlorofluorocarbons that contribute to global climate changes. Also, by using recycled materials it reduces the pressure of acquiring more resources such as trees and oil, saves energy, and reduces the space needed for landfills.

7. Keep Reusable Shopping Bags in Your Car – Being prepared with reusable bags is key! Using reusuable shopping bags has been wonderful for our family because we know we are making an impact on reducing a major source of waste —plastic! We love to use these collapsible reusuable shopping bags for our groceries:

8. Use Wool Dryer Balls Instead of Dryer Sheets – Using wool dryer balls will still have the same effect of regular dryer sheets –softening your clothes –without the toxic chemicals and you can add a few drops of essential oil to add a fresh scent. Wool dryer balls are reusable and prevents unnecessary waste. You are helping the environment everyday because we know you’re doing laundry everyday just like us! Ha!

9. Reduce Use of Plastic Wraps – use love to use reusable bees wax wraps to for food storage. Check our our post on Bees Wraps.
